David graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in biology where he worked in the Philips Institute for Oral Health Research under Dr. Zhao Lin researching small molecule inflammation inhibition and hard tissue regeneration. He began dental school at Columbia University and joined Dr. Chang H. Lee’s Regenerative Engineering Lab working on scaffolds and controlled delivery methods to harness the body’s own stem cell population for regeneration of fibrocartilage and tendon tissues. He then joined the NIH’s Medical Research Scholars Program under Dr. Pamela Robey in NIDCR exploring fibrinogen-thrombin crosslinked biomaterials and induced pluripotent stem cell therapy for cartilage injuries.
He is now pursuing a PhD in Stem Cell Biology at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute under Dr. Mekayla Storer and Dr. Robey. His research focuses on the extracellular matrix and its composition during development and wound healing.
Outside the lab David enjoys going camping and taking pictures, bouldering, and a good espresso. He is a Virginia native and has a deep love of the Chesapeake Bay.
